March-Main Character Energy and Finding New Style Aesthetics

Hello March,

Do you know your style aesthetic? My style aesthetic leans more on the boho-minimalist-casual area of the spectrum. Often, I dip into a little grunge because I love black and a good combat boot. However, I really stick with my more minimal and casual style. It works well for my everyday life. However, this is the year that I want to get out of the box and try some new things. So this month, I’m trying on a few new style types to see if I can find ones that will integrate nicely into my current wardrobe. I also want to go a little deeper into some of the style types that I already wear to help define my current style. Since I’m doing monthly themes, I thought that a brilliant combination would be mixing style aesthetics and harnessing our main character energy.

What is Main Character Energy?

In short, main character energy is being the protagonist of your story—the focal point. It’s about being the one that the story is centered on. We’re talking about the main girl in the rom-com level vibes. Romanticizing your life and giving yourself the attention that you not only deserve but also need.

I picked this combination of themes because having main character energy is one of things that helped me center myself and build my wardrobe. As women, we give so much of ourselves to everyone else and save very little for ourselves. This is especially true when you’re a mother. We put ourselves at the end of the list and often we don’t check off the things we need. I would do this with fashion. I dressed my family to impress, and I struggled to find anything in my closet that made me feel good. When I realized I was doing this, I started pouring into my cup, too. One way I did this was focusing on rebuilding my closet. It was time to check the things I needed off the list, too.

That’s why we’re putting focus on ourselves this month and refining our style. We’re going to create new characters with each aesthetic. I always felt that clothes can turn you into a different version of yourself and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. We’re going to explore different versions of ourselves and build our wardrobes. I want you to assert some main character energy as we dive into each style type. By the end of the month, I hope you can find some new style aesthetics to add to your closet, and find the confidence to step into your main character energy.
