Plus Size Sophisticated Style Aesthetic

The romantic style type and the sophisticated/chic style type have two things in common. They both give off the feeling of elegance and grace, and they both are style types that make me feel nervous. If you haven’t read my article on romantic style type, go take a look. If you have, then you know that there are styles I’m trying for the first time that have always been a little out of my comfort zone. The sophisticated style type is a little scary, but it’s one that I’m eagerly ready to add to my wardrobe.

The sophisticated/chic style type is similar to the romantic type in its use of very feminine pieces and simplicity. The difference is that sophisticated/chic style type is more polished and tailored. There is less lace and whimsy and more… well, sophistication. The outfits are have depth and layers. The pieces are classic and tailored.

I’ve honestly always thought of this style type as something that was more workwear related. However, there is a way to wear this style with casual pieces as well. I’m hoping that I can explore this style type and find some pieces that I can add to my wardrobe.

Things you’ll need for the sophisticated style type:

*these pieces should be in neutral tones if possible

Trousers

Pencil skirts

Dresses

Jeans (tailored fit with a dark wash)

White button-down shirts

Neutral colored blouses

White t-shirt

Camis

Blazers

Cardigans

Knit sweaters

Loafers

Mules

Boots

Pumps

Espadrille sandals

Outfit 1:

For this outfit, I went with a dark wash with wide legged cropped jean and a silk white cami. I’ve seen a lot of cropped wide legged outfits and I wanted to try it out. I love the look of cropped wide legged jeans. They make me feel like the classy mom. I finished the outfit with a black espadrille sandal. It’s simple and cute. I love it.

Outfit 2:

I love a monochromatic tone look. These aren’t matching knit pieces, but they give a very polished look. The black heeled mules are the perfect touch to this simple black look.

Outfit 3:

This is a classic go to look. If you want something simple and sophisticated, a white button down and jeans is a perfect look.

Outfit 4

This is a more dressy look. I went with these gray wide legged trousers and paired them with this sheer white top. If I were to recreate it, I probably would have gone with a white button down and a strappy heel. This is a great look if you need something more formal but very chic.

Outfit 5

This white form fitting dress just feels like the ideal example of classic sophistication. It harkens back to the days where these less is more type dresses were the rule for sexy. This dress gives retro vibes, so I went with a white pump to finish it and create the full look.

Outfit 6:

This outfit is a more casual take on the other trouser look. These white linen pants pair nicely with this denim blouse. The nude strappy heels finish this tailored but casual look.

Those are the looks. I was glad to see that adding sophistication outfits to my wardrobe wasn’t that hard. I had a lot of the pieces because I’m well stocked on my basics. There were some pieces that I’ve added that I love and are going to get a lot of use. Another thing that I loved is that my minimalist/casual style isn’t too far from the sophisticated/chic look. I really didn’t need to fear this aesthetic because I was kind of doing the aesthetic. I think was throwing me off was thinking I need expensive pieces. I was wrong; you don’t. It’s all in how the pieces you pick look, and how you put together. You can get a very sophisticated look and not spend a ton of money. I hope this helps you try something new and add some more sophisticated pieces to your closet.
