10 Wearable Plus Size Fashion Trends for the Spring

Trends can be a fun part of your wardrobe. However, constantly chasing the latest styles can be expensive and will quickly fill your closet with clothes that don’t work for your overall wardrobe. Yet, trying new trends is one of the fun parts of playing with fashion. if you don’t know what to do, I’ve got you covered. I’m going to show you some of the latest wearable trends and how to find them in your closet or inexpensive alternatives you can try out. So let’s get into 10 wearable fashion trends for the spring.

Elevated Basics

This trend is one that you can probably find in your closet. Think of clothes like white button downs, tailored trousers, classic tank tops, slip dresses, simple straight leg denim. This trend leans into minimalist style type. One way I’ve heard it described was that elevated basics is really 90s minimalism. When you look at 90’s minimalism, you see elevated classic pieces that are styled simplistically. Recreating this trend is easy. You can pair a nice blouse with simple, straight jeans. Or go with trousers and a tank top for a cute, modern look.

Sequin

I’m not sure if you can really count sequin as a trend, but it’s on trend in 2023. We all have that one sequin piece in our closet that we probably save for Christmas or New Years. However, something like a sequin skirt can be styled with graphic t-shirts, sweaters, blazers, and leather jackets. Sequin pieces mixed with casual pieces make such cute outfits for dressy or casual occasions.

Sheer

Sheer pieces have been on trend for a while, and this year is no exception. I feel sheer pieces are perfect for spring because they’re a great way to show some skin, but not bare it all. There are so many ways you can wear this trend. You can go all the way with sheer dresses and tops that show a lot of skin. Or you can pick pieces that just have a few sheer peek-a-boo spots. An easy way to wear this trend is to throw on a sheer top with some jeans or trousers. Find yourself a sheer top you can wear in different ways within your wardrobe. Even though sheer is on trend, sheer pieces are kind of classic pieces. Sheer pieces will always be in style in some shape, way, or form.

Metallic

Metallic is a trend that is easy to incorporate into your style this spring. You can go all out with metallic pieces by getting things like skirts, pants, or even dresses. Or you can just add small pieces to your outfit with things like purses and boots. One way that I’m going to try out the metallic trend is through a metallic manicure. I love how adorable metallic nail polish looks and how it adds flair to your look without having to do much. Throwing in a metallic piece or nails along with a basic outfit is a wonderful and very on trend look.

Oversized Denim

The oversized look is on trend this spring. Being plus size, I was a little hesitant when it came to wearing baggy jeans. Sometimes, baggy jeans on my body make me look boxy and add unneeded layers. However, I’ve found that finding jeans that are fitted through the thigh and baggy through the leg work for my body. I love the 90s cut jeans from Target. Pair them with a fitted top and you have a cute look. If baggy jeans aren’t your style, then you should try wide legged jeans to give you the oversized look.

Polka Dots

Polka Dots are on trend, even though I don’t feel they ever weren’t stylish. You’re likely to have something with polka dots in your closet. There are so many ways that you can pair polka dots with solid colored pieces. If you don’t have polka dots in your closet, this would be the perfect thing to thrift. Like I said, polka dots have always been in style and will be easy for you to find second hand. Much like the sheer pieces, having pieces with polka dots will last a long time in your wardrobe.

Leather

Leather has been on trend for a while and in different ways. Like many other pieces on this list, leather pieces are ones I’m sure you have in your closet. Leather is a great way to add texture to your outfits. For the spring, I’m breaking out my brown leather pieces and pairing them with cream and white. Something like a flowy top with a brown leather skirt is a cute look for the season.

Maxi skirts

Maxi skirts are on trend and this one I’m excited about. You can honestly wear a maxi skirt any way that you like. However, for the spring, I feel boho style maxi skirts would be a wonderful way to wear the trend. I’m looking for long, flowy skirts with soft pastel colors to add to my closet. No matter what style you get, a maxi skirt is a great addition to your closet.

Oversized Bags

I’m so happy to see this next trend come back into style and that’s oversized bags. I went in heavy on the less is more type bags. Don’t get me wrong, I love a small bag, but it makes it difficult to pack all the things you need. I’m sure you’re like me and have oversized purses from when they were in style a few years ago. I’ve also found some at Walmart and Target if you want to grab a cute oversized bag at a good price.

Long earrings

Long earrings are the last trend on our list. I don’t think I’ve worn long earrings in years, and this is a trend that I’m excited to try. You can go for shoulder gracing earrings that are eye-catching and elaborate. Or you can choose something that is simple and elegant. If you’re looking for any trend to add to your outfit this spring, this is the least expensive one to try.

The fun part about developing your style is trying new things. Adding wearable trends to your closet is a perfect way to have fun with fashion. The best part about most of the trends on this list is that they’re thrift able, inexpensive add ons, or easily found in your closet.
