Decoded Style: Bohemian Style Type

I’m starting a new series and it’s called Decoded Style. In Decoded Style, I will break down different style types and showing you how to incorporate them into your plus size and curvy wardrobe. The first style type that I will decode is the Bohemian style.

I love the bohemian style type. Bohemian or Boho fashion is a bold and expressive style type. It holds a retro feel with it’s 60s and 70s inspired pieces such as wide legged pants, crochet, and neutral colors. The style type also boasts a whimsical and feminine feel with its use of lace, floral prints, and flowy fabrics.

Some things associated with boho style are:

  • Lace

  • Bold prints

  • Floral and Paisley patterns

  • Crochet pieces

  • Fringe

  • Flowy and light material

  • Wide legged pants

  • Maxi dresses

  • Leather and suede

  • And neutral colors

I love bohemian style because it’s fun and gives lots of room to get creative with your outfit styling. Alone, bohemian chic is great to adopt as your main style type given how fun and original you can get with your outfits. However, if you like the style, but don’t want to dedicate your entire wardrobe to earthy and whimsical pieces, I have a few ideas of how to incorporate these fun and bold pieces into your wardrobe. Let’s get into it.

Outfit 1:

You can ease your way into boho style with a kimono wrap. Kimono style wraps are easy to find in an assortment of colors and patterns. For this outfit, I paired this thrifted kimono with a white tank top bodysuit and a pair of high-waisted jean shorts.

I finished it with a simple black pair of sandals. This is a great way to blend simple pieces with a touch of boho style.

Outfit 2:

This outfit is a great option for a nighttime bohemian style outfit. I started with these wide legged black jeans. I love that wide legged pants are back in style. They were my favorite when I was younger, and they are perfect for adding touches of boho style to your outfits.

I added this simple white cami keeping the outfit neutral. I finished the outfit with strappy black heels for a great boho evening look.

Outfit 3:

Here is another casual outfit. I started with these patterned shorts. The pattern on these shorts are little vines and flowers and the hem has a blue fringe to it that goes great with the boho theme. I paired these shorts with a flowy top that drapes from the shoulders. Finishing the outfit, I added these black slide espadrille sandals. This outfit is bold, whimsical, and so boho chic.

Outfit 4:

The next outfit takes on the bohemian style full throttle. This dress gives a retro vibe with its paisley pattern and 70s smock dress design. I added suede booties to finish the boho look. Throwing on a brown belt and hat you have a full on dreamy bohemian look. Adding patterned and flowy dresses to your wardrobe is a great way to play with the boho style. This dress is perfect for that job.

Outfit 5:

We’re going back to the touch of boho with this linen wide legged pant outfit. These soft denim pants tie at the waist and give a very 70s vibe while still looking modern.

I added this white silk cami to keep with the retro boho feel. The outfit certainly gives old-school vibes, but is still full of fresh boho style.

Outfit 6:

You can’t have a bohemian outfit inspo list without adding a maxi dress. There are all kinds of maxi dresses that you can choose from. This floral fit and flair dress is a perfect choice if you’re looking for a boho style outfit. I added these cognac espadrilles to finish this romantic take on boho style.

For this outfit, I paired skinny jeans and a white tank top. Adding this crochet vest gives it a boho vibe. I finished the outfit with a pair of nude pumps and gold accessories.

Outfit 8:

Another staple in the bohemian style type is flowy and billowy clothing. This long, colorful, and flowy skirt is a whimsical way to add boho style to your wardrobe. I can dress these skirts up or down. Here, I paired the skirt with a white cami and a flat sandal to keep it low key. You could also dress up this look with heels and a nice blouse.

This linen jumper is a great summer boho piece to add to your closet. I added these crochet espadrille sandals to maximize the boho feel.

Outfit 10:

This outfit is more modern but can still give off bohemian. I paired these oversized ripped jeans with a plain white tank top. I finished the outfit off with a brown belt, fedora, and flat, brown leather sandals. It’s the accessories that give the boho feel to the outfit. Sometimes it’s as simple as adding little touches like a hat or shoes that help you achieve a certain style type.
